#Lafriqueetlejazz Jam Session Avec Etienne Mbappe
AFRICA AND JAZZ - The Lively Soul of Jazz
If there is one thing that crosses the eras of jazz, it is indeed its unalterable link with improvisation.
And it is in the jam sessions that this magic takes on its full dimension: total freedom, unexpected encounters, raw energy.
For this jam, the club welcomes an emblematic musician, whose history is intimately linked to this place: Étienne Mbappé.
This great name of jazz and world music has a true love story with the Club, started in the 80s, when he played every night at the Caf’Conc, rue Saint-Denis. As soon as he had the opportunity, he went up to the top of the stairs to listen to what was going on on this small stage... A scene that he knows today better than anyone, after decades of music, sweat and passion shared between its walls.
Originally from Bonendale, in the Sawa lands of Cameroon, Étienne Mbappé was born in 1964. Very quickly, his talent imposes itself: virtuoso bassist, inspired composer and true showman, he is today recognized as one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. His particular playing, with gloves, gives him an unmistakable sound signature – a finesse of touch and an expressivity on the skin that distinguish him on all stages of the world.
He marked the history of the Club with groups that have become cults: Rido Bayonne, Casino, Ultramarine, Cci'hot, Su La Take, The Prophets, Nec+... and today, with his brand new project:
