| Compositions, jazz tinged with African and Eastern influences
Born in Nice, pianist Jo Kaiat is a musical traveler whose work is a true blend of cultures. His odyssey began with jazz, but he quickly enriched his style by drawing inspiration from classical and impressionist composers such as Stravinsky and Messiaen. After perfecting his art in Paris and New York, he set off to discover his roots in Israel, where he studied classical composition. His quest then took him to Africa, notably Mali, where he immersed himself in local music. His music reflects this duality and these encounters, blending Western harmonies with African and Indian rhythms. Whether with his Bamako trio or his Delhi trio, Jo Kaiat weaves musical dialogues where jazz, blues, and traditional music meet, building bridges between cultures and instruments. His piano thus becomes the beating heart of an endless exploration, oscillating between African vitality and the mystical calm of India.
