Described by Jazzwise as “a brilliant improviser,” guitarist Romain Pilon has established himself through his albums as one of the leading figures on the contemporary jazz scene. With international recognition, he has toured as a leader around the world and shared the stage or studio with renowned artists such as Brian Blade, Ben Wendel, Jeff Ballard, Seamus Blake, Walter Smith III, Baptiste Trotignon, Sylvain Luc, Linda May Han Oh, and many others. For the first time as a leader on the stage of 38 Riv, Romain Pilon presents “Open Roads,” his new album and undoubtedly the most personal project of his career.

He will be accompanied by two exceptional musicians: drummer Fred Pasqua, his long-time partner, with whom he shares a rare musical complicity. And as a special guest, the young double bassist Ton Felices, a prodigy based in Amsterdam, whose sensitivity is already remarkable.

Carried by poetic writing and a wealth of textures and atmospheres, the trio's music draws its influences from Led Zeppelin as well as Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, and Erik Satie. A sonic journey at the crossroads of lyricism, energy, and freedom.

“A guitarist of marvelous originality.” France Musique

“Pilon glides through the music with a superb sense of confidence...” Jazz Times (USA)
