Yo Hess Vibes Quartet — a fresh breath in Franco-American jazz
Yonatan Hes, a young Franco-American saxophonist, cut his teeth in Burgundy at the vibrant Crescent Jazz Club, alongside Eric Prost, François Gallix, and Stéphane Foucher. He quickly made a name for himself, sharing the stage with leading figures of European hard bop (Erik Ineke, Stéphane Chandelier, Nicolas Rageau, Jos Machtel), as well as with artists from the contemporary ECM-inspired jazz scene (Stéphane Galland, Marko Churnchez, Shaonan Trigger Su).
It was at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) that he met his musical partners:
Lucas Dorado – an incandescent vibraphonist, infused with South American rhythms,
Gabriel Sauzay – a lyrical and precise double bassist,
Orélio Paladini – a volcanic drummer, rich in colors and contrasts.
Together, they form a young, brilliant, and surprising quartet.
Their musical universe draws as much from Immanuel Wilkins, Walter Smith III, and Ben Van Gelder as from the great voices of modern jazz: Cannonball Adderley, Wayne Shorter, and Sonny Rollins.
Blending poetic compositions, blazing improvisations, and bold reinterpretations of standards, the Yonatan Hes Quartet delivers an audacious, luminous jazz — the new wave that’s making Paris vibrate.
