The alto saxophonist Plume has established himself on the international jazz scene as a soloist, composer, and leader. His lyrical and expressive playing, rooted in the Afro-American tradition while opening up to contemporary influences, reveals a unique and deeply personal voice.
Trained in Boston (Berklee and New England Conservatory) under the guidance of George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, and Joe Lovano, he refined his style at Wally’s Café alongside Walter Smith III, Kendrick Scott, Warren Wolf, Darren Barrett, Jason Palmer, and Ambrose Akinmusire.
Based in New York from 2007 to 2013, he continued to explore his playing and writing, having shared the stage with Mulgrew Miller, Roy Hargrove, Greg Osby, Tim Warfield, Bill Lee, Eric Lewis, and many musicians of his generation, before moving to Paris in 2015.
Plume has toured with the groups of Melody Gardot, Joe Sanders, Sarah McKenzie, and George Burton. His albums Escaping the Dark Side (2019, featuring Ambrose Akinmusire) and Holding On (2022, featuring Gregory Hutchinson) reveal intense, spiritual, and distinctly contemporary music.
For this third carte blanche, Plume invites the French guitarist and composer Romain Pilon.
Described by Jazzwise magazine as "a brilliant improviser," Romain has made a name for himself on the international scene for many years, both as a leader and through numerous collaborations as a sideman.
He has shared the stage and recorded with artists such as Christian Scott, Baptiste Trotignon, Marc Copland, Peter Bernstein, Ben Wendel, Walter Smith III, Jeff Ballard, Seamus Blake, and Brian Blade...
With 11 albums as a leader or co-leader, including his most recent Open Roads, Romain has received high praise from the French and international press, with Jazz Times writing: "Pilon glides through the music with a superb sense of confidence."
For this concert, Plume and Romain will perform a repertoire blending their own compositions with some of their favorite pieces.
