Mourad Benhammou is a self-taught Parisian jazz drummer born in 1969, recognized for his deep roots in the hard bop tradition. Shaped by listening to great masters like Elvin Jones or Philly Joe Jones, he developed his style in Parisian clubs from the 1990s onwards alongside many musicians from the jazz scene.
After notable collaborations with artists such as Sunny Murray, Xavier Richardeau, or Raphaël Imbert, he founded the Interplanetary Music Orchestra and then created the Jazzworkers, a quintet inspired by the Blue Note aesthetic.
A highly sought-after musician, he has played with numerous figures from American and French jazz, showcasing a powerful, precise, and profoundly swinging playing style. In 2021, Jazz Magazine described him as "one of the best current drummers in the field of bop and hard bop".
