Since 1980, he has built a discography of quartet albums, surrounded by big names—Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, Bill Evans, Charles Lloyd, and Kenny Wheeler. His music has a strong identity: a Nordic sound that grounds jazz in the Scandinavian spirit, with the double bass at the heart of orchestral compositions.

THE LIBERETTO SERIES AND HIS LATEST ALBUM, ECHOMYR

For several years now, Lars Danielsson has been developing the Liberetto series, in which he explores a balance between jazz freedom, classical heritage, and popular melody. It is in this vein that he presents Echomyr, the fifth installment of the series, to be released on April 17, 2026, on ACT Music. “The album title is a personal creation,” explains Lars Danielsson. “Echo” describes a vast soundscape, while “myr” is an old Nordic word meaning “marsh.” A sound emerging from the depths of the earth, from the intimate inner self: that which makes us human and unique. The album brings together, alongside Lars Danielsson, Magnus Öström, Gregory Privat, and John Parricelli, as well as soloists with distinctive instrumental voices: trumpet, flute, and English horn. The Barbizon audience will be treated to a French premiere of this new album.

AN AESTHETIC OF CLARITY

Lars Danielsson embraces a quest for simplicity—not for ease, but for profound clarity. He writes music that people can understand, while retaining its personality and depth. He is an artist who steadfastly pursues a musical path marked by both depth and lightness, whose compositions are instantly recognizable. Lars Danielsson has a perfect command of melody, in which he combines the freedom, harmony, and rhythmic intensity of jazz with the sonic culture of his classical roots, all while blending in the accessible melodies of popular and folk songs. An intense jazz experience awaits us in Barbizon.
