Having become one of the most internationally recognized and committed Guatemalan artists advocating for the recognition of women and Indigenous peoples, Sara Curruchich embodies a luminous and authentic force.
A charismatic singer, she carries her voice across folk, rock, cumbia, reggae and Mayan Kaqchikel music, crossing borders like a song of resistance and hope. Her captivating voice offers an intimate musical experience, where her melodies as a Mayan artist and magical harmonies transport audiences to the heart of Indigenous Mayan culture.
On stage, performing as a quartet, she is accompanied by three talented musicians. The rhythm of the traditional marimba, combined with Sara's folk guitar, bass and drums, creates a style of performance and composition reminiscent of a certain "Manu Chao" spirit, an artist for whom she will also be opening in Guatemala. It is a dynamic style, striking in its sonic power.
The show also features instruments such as cane and beeswax flutes, as well as ocarinas, instruments that embody the memory and cultural heritage of the Mayan people.
Her latest album, Mujer Indígena, explores new sounds while carrying powerful messages, celebrating the dignity and struggles of Indigenous women around the world.
The album includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Lila Downs, Nan Rosalina Tuyuc, Muerdo and Amparanoia / Amparo Sánchez.
