Tomoki Sanders

At the age of 31, Tomoki Sanders—discovered in 2025 during their appearance at New York’s influential Winter Jazz Fest—shows great promise.

The child of the legendary Pharoah Sanders, having honed their craft for the past five years with, among others, Kassa Overall’s supergroup, an active member of the new generation of New York musicians whom they showcase during their Tomo Tuesdays, a catalyst for openness and diversity through their dual African-American and Japanese heritage and their non-binary identity, Tomoki Sanders is a free spirit who eagerly explores Great Black Music, urban and electronic music, and the avant-garde.

It is only after all these wanderings that Tomoki Sanders produces their band’s debut album, set for release in 2026. There, they re-establish the clear connection to the golden age of the Impulse! label and throw themselves, with all their fantastic personality, into the wide-open door left by Kamasi Washington and Shabaka Hutchings.
