Cipher

Cipher is a new quartet bringing together four of the most active voices in the Norwegian jazz scene. Their debut self-titled album, recorded at Neby Studios in Oslo in June 2025, showcases a group founded on deep musical camaraderie, collective energy, and a shared curiosity for the directions music can take.
The name Cipher reflects the group's central idea: that of a coded language, a form of internal musical code developed over years of playing together in various formations. The quartet relies on an intuitive understanding of phrasing, rhythmic placement, and improvisational reflexes from each member. This shared vocabulary not only shapes how the music comes to life on stage, but also the very writing of compositions, conceived from the outset with the unique interaction between group members in mind.
