He was born on 23 September 1926 and died on 17 July 1967. Nearly sixty years after his death, Coltrane’s legacy continues to shine and profoundly influence contemporary and modern jazz. In my view, he is the greatest legend of jazz!

With nearly a million monthly listeners, pianist Carl Winther has established himself as a musician capable of reaching a wide audience. This comes as no surprise when you hear his style of jazz piano, imbued with empathy and a deep sense of swing. Through international collaborations with musicians such as Randy Brecker and Walt Weiskopf, as well as 15 years of touring alongside saxophone legend Jerry Bergonzi, Carl Winther has clearly demonstrated his international reach.

Today, Carl Winther is joining forces with the Scottish saxophone virtuoso Tommy Smith, a leading figure on the international jazz scene since the mid-1980s, when he joined vibraphonist Gary Burton’s band. Drumming legend Jack DeJohnette has said of Tommy Smith: “One of the most important voices among today’s tenor saxophonists.”

The Carl Winther Trio comprises – alongside Carl on piano – the young rising star of the bass, Rune Fog-Nielsen, and the seasoned jazz drummer Anders Mogensen, a Grammy Award winner. A tightly-knit trio, they accompany a leading figure of international jazz on this occasion.
