Jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and acclaimed educator, Ludovic de Preissac has established himself as a leading figure on the French jazz scene. Immersed from childhood in both classical and jazz traditions, he developed a distinctive artistic identity from an early age.

Coming from a family of jazz musicians, Ludovic de Preissac began teaching himself jazz piano at the age of 15. He later completed his musical training at the Lycée de Sèvres, earning a vocational diploma in music professions, before becoming a professional jazz pianist at the age of 20.

He launched his career by touring across Europe aboard the legendary Orient Express.

Initially sought after by leading traditional jazz musicians—including his father, clarinetist Philippe de Preissac, as well as Maxime Saury and Stéphane Guérault—he developed a more modern musical language with his first trio, formed in 1987. The group earned recognition by winning both the Jazz à La Défense competition and the Monaco International Jazz Competition.

In 1986, he founded his first trio, which quickly gained attention for the quality of its original compositions and arrangements, influenced by Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Chick Corea. Expanded into a quintet at the end of the 1980s, the ensemble enjoyed considerable success, combining the legacy of hard bop with a distinctive personal voice, and recorded two critically acclaimed albums.

Alongside his performing career, Ludovic de Preissac has developed a widely recognized expertise in composition and arranging for both small ensembles and large orchestras, earning distinctions in several competitions. Deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, he continues to pursue a creative approach that combines technical mastery with a strong sense of improvisation, serving a contemporary and open-minded vision of jazz.
