“The terms ‘Caribbean jazz,’ ‘Creole jazz,’ ‘Afro-descendant jazz,’ and ‘Woucikam jazz’ have often been used to describe my music. In my view, these terms are pleonasms, but they are also the most fitting way to describe my musical influences and the music I create. ”

Pléonasme is the name Xavier Belin chose for a multifaceted, constantly evolving musical project. Over the seasons, Pléonasme has become a free musical laboratory, where forms, encounters, and soundscapes that defy conventional frameworks are invented. Each edition explores new territory. For this fourth season, Xavier Belin places drums at the center of the action. An invitation to discover and hear drums in a new light. Ka drums, voodoo drums, Haitian drums, Guyanese drums, Native American drums: all have their own language, their own timbre, their own breath. They are instruments of struggle, of ritual, of connection. They are tools of communication, memory, and creation. Through them, the musicians explore a repertoire blending reimagined covers, collective improvisations, and new rhythms, fueled by the trio’s raw energy. The residency at Le Baiser Salé will be an opportunity to develop this sonic material over time. Not a static concert, but a series of encounters where the project breathes, transforms, and refines itself. A way of building music in public, through listening, intensity, and play.
