As a Brazilian singer and composer, Chico Buarque brought, with Gilberto Gil in particular, at the end of the 1960s, a major revival in Brazilian music, a genre called Musica Popular Brasileira (MPB), resulting from the merger of bossa nova, samba, jazz or rock, while being the support of a protest expression against the power in place.
