The saxophonist Hanna Paulsberg plays stereotypes. Her concept group is deeply rooted in the African-American jazz tradition. Indeed, "Daughter of the Sun" even echoes African jazz, especially the style born in the apartheid townships of South Africa, whether conscious or unconscious, references Chris McGregor or Abdullah Ibrahim, and Kwela music, whose style is largely inspired, are recurrent, and there are also allusions to the West African highlife. The general atmosphere, as the title of the album seems suggest it, is sunny and exhilarating, and reminds the passage of Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane's spiritual jazz. The Hanna Paulsberg Concept combines all these resonances with its own musicality to create a deliciously playful style.A discovery that will surprise more than one. Our favorite!
