Xavier Belin & Pitakpi – Spéciale Fal Frett
Caribbean
Created in 2018 by Xavier Belin, pianist, arranger and composer, Pitakpi is a jazz quartet strongly influenced by Afro-descendant music. Xavier draws his inspirations especially in traditional music Martinique, his native island. The word "PITAKPI" refers to the onomatopoeia used for the clave of "Ti-Bwa", a clave from which almost all traditional music is constructed.
Fal Frett, one of the first Martinique groups of progressive Creole music, after Marius Cultier and Alain Jean-Marie's Liquid Rock. Highly influenced by Caribbean music, the PITAKPI project is a conscientious and successful project. An original and promising artistic proposal that received in 2019, the jury prize of the prestigious Golden Jazz Trophy.
