La Dame de Canton

At the end of the seventies, two young French people made the crazy bet to have an authentic traditional Chinese junk made on the Canton shipyard. The construction of this last Chinese junk was built according to plans of the seventeenth century. 25 meters long, 7 meters wide, weighing 80 tons including: 7 species of exotic wood, tiller, chords and planked and pegged old-fashioned, three-masted rigging with 250m of battened sails. bamboo, are the characteristics of this boat out of the ordinary.

This junk called "The Lady of Canton" leaves her native port for several years of navigation. (first junk to have crossed the Cape of Good Hope) and made a trip around the world once and a half. In 1981, Floating News Agency, she led a number of events ... In 1995, after sailing for ten years to discover different countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, the United States, a total of about forty countries , the Lady of Canton moored in the heart of Paris left bank to open to the public as a multicultural place. The junk takes the name of "Guinguette Pirate" and becomes a cultural and multidisciplinary crossroads between artists from around the world. (She notably welcomed: Louise Attaque, Matthieu Chedid, Black Desire, Tété, Nossfell, Sansévérino, the Great Sophie, Bénabar, Angelo Debarre, Thomas Dutronc, Mademoiselle K ...) It will later resume its original name "LA DAME DE CANTON" and will open to privatization to be invested also by companies or private for unique and personalized events.

Nowadays, 300 live concerts a year focus on music, but also short films, exhibitions, theaters, tales and summer street performances on the platform.
