Gypsy music in France: the violin meets the guitar
The Gypsy people, before arriving in France, have traveled for centuries since leaving India. It has come into contact with multiple cultures which have forged his complex cultural heritage. The Sinti branch, established mainly in Italy, France and Germany, stands out for its musical touch, where traditional music mixes with American jazz. The gypsies play gypsy jazz with a lot of acoustic guitars, violins and double basses, and create a French jazz "without drums or trumpet". Among them, great artists like Shnuckenack Reinhardt, Tchavolo Schmitt or Biréli Lagrène.
The press recommends it:
Jazz News, the hidden gems (Oct 2018): “Why not? is more than a patrimonial wink or an update: a declaration of love and artistic creation that makes you want " Pierre Tenne
REVELATIONS Jazz Magazine (Oct 2018 / Album "Why not?"): "What you need in the repertoire and arrangements to renew the style" Franck Bergerot
Romane on the album "Why not? "(2018):" What a surprise to hear the rebirth of these works by such young and talented musicians "
SÉLECTION COULEURS JAZZ (2015 / Album "Swinging in Paris") "Virtuosity - yet present - is not the first objective. Musicality and harmony are the two common threads of the project… with swing of course…. ! »Christian Grimauld
