Well known virtuoso in central Europ where he was notably member of the Orchestra Ciocîrlia of Romania, Ioan « Fritz » Streba came to France in the mid 90’s. Immediately identified by Angelo Debarre, he recorded with him one of his first album, Gypsy Swing de Paris.
Born in Iasi (Romania), Fritz Streba performed with the most famous romanian musicians of that time, like George ZAMFIR, Ionica MINUNE, Toni IORDACHE.
Amongst his various more recent collaborations, are found Thomas DUTRONC, Didier LOCKWOOD, Bireli LAGRENE, Angelo DEBARRE.
As a composer of many influences and skills, Ioan Streba is part of the recording of the soundtrack of the movie VENGO from Toni GATLIF (2001), and performed a number of collaboration with Olivier Lecoeur. He also composed and issued 2 personal albums as a composer and leader : Cache Cache (2012), Balkans Jazz (Gypsy Blues) (2019).
Born in 1965 in a gypsy violonist family, Ioan Streba is soon attracted by the clarinet. At 9, he started studying in the Conservatory, developing his musical culture and skills. Graduated at 18, he is rapidely recognised in his country, winning various national musical contests and medals.
Very specialist of the Romanian and Eastern Europe traditional and folklore music, he teached them and jazz in Le Havre for many years. Amongst his peer, he is recognized as an innovating jazzman and composer.
Mixing colors and sounds, styles like gypsy, latino, Ioan performs bright choruses inspired by Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans and Chick Corea, weaved by his playfull clarinet, conqueering his performance mates and the public.
