Whatever the formation he gathers around his saxophones, Simon Spang-Hanssen amazes by its freshness but also its modernity. The pieces have accents either African, Middle Eastern or jazz; without giving the impression, at any time, of an exercise of style. Long based in Paris, the Dane has collaborated with big names in French and international jazz such as Billy Hart, Denis Badault, Franck Tortiller, etc.
Ear Witness, a quartet with strong personalities, around a funk fusion project!
Simon Spang-Hanssen is surrounded by his long-time accomplice, the West Indian pianist Mario Canonge, by Thomas Fonnesbaek, the great Danish bass player influenced by both Scandinavian melancholy and American jazz tradition.
Polyrhythmic Cameroonian Felix Sabal-Lecco, collaborator of Manu Dibango, Youssou N'Dour, Peter Gabriel… , completes this high-flying quartet in style.
Bassist and drummer get along like thieves on playful grooves. The leader goes into relaxation among his always spicy compositions.” (F. Bergerot, Jazz Magazine)
