Roberto Negro Et L'Ensemble Intercontemporain

A pianist and composer who articulates lyricism and abstraction in a very contemporary way in projects that are willingly transgenic and interdisciplinary, Roberto Negro has been developing a personal universe that is as seductive as it is unstoppable for the past ten years, on the borders of modern jazz, improvised music and the contemporary domain. As if to accentuate this "eccentricity" and to affirm definitively the singularity of his artistic gesture, he signs today with Newborn an ambitious orchestral project proposing the unprecedented meeting between the free improvisation trio that he has formed for a few years with the percussionist Michele Rabbia and the double bassist Nicolas Crosse and a small formation with a chamber music instrumentarium composed of musicians of the Ensemble intercontemporain. Using the trio's hyper-sensory sound universe as the raw material, the driving force and the compositional matrix of this score that integrates improvisation in a structural way, Roberto Negro invents an organic music with hybrid textures that mix acoustics and electronics, and with moving forms that multiply the games of illusion through a whole network of echoes and sonic superpositions. At once learned and instinctive, finely arranged and resolutely open to lyricism and melody, this sensual piece, by never sacrificing the spontaneity of gesture to formal abstraction, unquestionably makes the most of both worlds and opens up new perspectives for 21st century music.
