Sillage

Sillage is a quintet based around the compositions of saxophonist Simon Riou. Inspired by contemporary American and European jazz movements, he creates a repertoire that borrows from Kenny Wheeler as much as from Kurt Rosenwinkel and Walter Smith III while flirting with the mysterious sounds of Miles Davis' second quintet. 
 
In their music, melodic lyricism and rhythmic intensity intertwine with contemplative harmonies while textures and free improvisation make subtle appearances as the music moves. Based on a mainly acoustic instrumentation, the guitar and its effects color and electrify a more traditional formula.
 
Beyond the world of jazz, each of the protagonists evolves in numerous groups with heterogeneous influences. Whether they come from pop, rap, experimental music or even folk; the influences and musical affinities of each of them are reflected in the music of Sillage and make its richness.
