For her first residency at 38Riv, Monika Kabasele invites guitarist and composer Hugo Corbin. The young singer of Greek-Congolese origin, founder of the Grecofuturism project, has been forming a guitar-vocal duo with the guitarist since 2020. Hugo Corbin released his first album Inner Roads as a leader in 2019 and his compositions are influenced by ethereal or cinematic atmospheres, moods that resemble those of the ECM label, or those of films like Melancholia, Fargo or Man Without a Past. Monika and Hugo communicate through the language of jazz and improvisation and create together a universe of their own, carried by the freedom of expression. They compose a modern jazz, influenced by traditional Greek, Martinique, Congolese melodies, or sometimes by pop and rock!
