Lontano – François Couturier & Anja Lechner

The musical collaboration of Anja Lechner and François Couturier is long established, through their acclaimed concerts and recordings for ECM, both as a duo and with the Tarkovsky Quartet. Their highly acclaimed and successful duo project “Moderato Cantabile” featured music oscillating between East and West. Today, with their new program 'Lontano', the German cellist and French pianist travel a wide musical arc – embracing familiar melodies by Henri Dutilleux, Giya Kancheli, Anouar Brahem and others, and pieces that leave room for improvisation and personal interpretation. François Couturier has also composed new music for the duo which serves as a unifying element and provides a context in which improvisation and free interpretation can take place.
