Clément Merienne Presents Magnolia

Clément Merienne joins the #JazzDeDemain residency!
After a classical training, he turned to jazz and improvised music. He stands out for his constant quest for openness and his willingness to break down stylistic barriers, notably through the use of prepared piano and electronic music. With Magnolia, a classically trained quartet, he explores improvised sounds by working on the timbre of each instrument. The musicians use repetition and rupture to distort and restructure their compositions in real time, drawing inspiration from cubism, surrealism, computer bugs and the organic rhythms of Gnaoui and Mandingo musical traditions. The quartet creates flourishing, lush rhythmic and harmonic polyphonies thanks to the singular energy of its four members.
