Between torment and bliss, Sarah Kay takes on love, grief and introspection, expressing herself on these canvases with venom and flair. Her compositions are like a collection of reflections on the world around her, blending contemplative poetry with fragments of autobiography. The pianist's sound is unique, emotional and deeply penetrating.
With a palette of influences ranging from Tigran Hamasyan to EST, her music fluctuates between experimental jazz, hip hop and spoken word. Strongly influenced by the UK scene, notably artists such as Kae Tempest and Loyle Carner, she subtly blends instrumental trance with vehement spoken word.
After releasing her first EP, Sharon & The Styx, in 2022, Sarah Kay continued to explore trio playing alongside Rennes musicians Léo Debroise and Simon Prudhomme. They won the national ‘Jazz en Ville’ competition in 2023, and are preparing an album for release in 2025.
