Luca Fattorini: contrabasses
Karim Blal: piano
Karim Blal is an inventive and virtuoso pianist, Italian by birth and Parisian at heart. Inspired by the greatest jazz pianists, he quickly forged his own personality while remaining very attached to the pianists of the "great tradition", and this can be heard. In fact, there is something quite essential in his music. Already recognized by the greatest, and after having been taught by Barry Harris and Kenny Barron, Karim has performed with Ari Hoenig, Hans Glawischnig, E.J. Strickland. He won the Best Group and Best Pianist awards at the Tuscia in Jazz festival in 2009 and has played in prestigious venues such as the Blue Note Milano (Italy), the Victoria Nasjonal Jazzscene (Norway), the Fasching Jazz Club (Sweden), the Chorus Jazz Club (Switzerland) and the Minsk Philharmonic (Belarus), to name but a few. After two highly acclaimed albums in the jazz community, Karim Blal reformed two renowned trios with Luca Fattorini and Gautier Garrigue/Antoine Paganotti, but also with Ameen Saleem (double bass) and Gregory Hutchinson (drums).
Karim's music is playful, organic and moving. Through a repertoire of jazz standards and original compositions, this trio explores and experiments in tradition and modern music, with a new album release planned for 2023.
