Founded in 2021, Chocho Cannelle brings together Camille Heim (harpist), Léo Danais (drummer), Arthur Guyard (pianist) and Timothé Renard (clarinettist): four musicians who explore the multiple facets of this singular instrumentation. Camille Heim brings out the full potential of her harp, using it as an electric bass. She plays the dual role of soloist and accompanist. Timothé Renard dresses up his bass clarinet with a multitude of effects, taking us into saturated electronic territory. Keyboards hold no secrets for Arthur Guyard, who wanders between enveloping textures and lyrical improvisations. Léo Danais underpins the whole with warm, colorful drum rhythms.
The magic happens, and the result is a band sound that is instantly recognizable, with each member becoming an indispensable cog in this organic entity. Together, they distill a music that is by turns dynamic, danceable, cinematic, gentle and moving.
Chocho Cannelle got off to a flying start with the public and the press: in June 2022, the group won the Concours National de Jazz à La Défense. This was followed by the release of their first EP “Libre à l'intérieur” in January 2023, voted “Révélation Jazz Magazine” and a favorite of Alex Dutilh on France Musique. The group made a number of appearances on Club Jazz a FIP, and on France Musique's Banzzai and Open Jazz programs. Their ascent continues with their selection for the final of the Rezzo Jazz springboard in Vienne in July 2023 and a national tour of numerous festivals and concert halls in 2023/2024.
