Josef Zeimetz is a German-Polish bassist and composer. He grew up in a musical family in Dresden, and after studying in Amsterdam and in Basel with the likes of Larry Grenadier, Ambrose Akinmusire and Mark Turner, he established himself in Paris, where he continues to work within the European jazz scene. Among others, Josef has performed with David Binney, Julia Perminova and Vincent Meissner.
In his compositions, Josef is reimagining musics such as Prokofiev’s and Scriabin’s, from the Munequitos de Matanzas, and Andrew Hill’s.
Among others, he has been awarded the Young Munich Jazz Award (Germany), the UA International Jazz Award (Portugal), the Umbria Jazz Conad Award (Italy), and the HI-five Award (Germany).
