Qantara

Qantara (Arabic for bridge) is a Marseille-based quartet featuring guitarist Mehdi Azaïez, saxophonist Matthieu Fabre, double bassist Nghia Duong and drummer Jérémi Martinez. 

The repertoire explores the richness of different rhythmic traditions, blending them with the formal and melodic complexities of the Arab world and the sonic textures of today's jazz. Improvisation and interaction between the members of the group, made up of some of France's finest young jazz musicians, are naturally given pride of place. Fascinated by all the traditions of Afro-American music, the quartet explores the link between spontaneity, freedom of form and introspection. For this unique date, they welcome vibraphonist Alexis Valet.
