Pierre Durand is a guitarist, composer, arranger and occasional singer. "For me, jazz is, to my knowledge, the only music that combines two principles that move me: [...] improvisation and the blending of all world music. That's how you can bring together Rabih Abou Khalil, John Zorn, Sidney Bechet and Fred Frith under the name of jazz". A subtle musician and fine melodist, Pierre Durand enjoys exploring the many facets of jazz. Moving from one horizon to another, he draws on the roots of Afro-American music. His unlabelled jazz, with its apparent simplicity, moves from ancestral Africa to Charles Mingus, from a baroque minuet to the shamanic incantations of the American Indians. Everything blends into a passing dream. A kind of refined declaration to all music.
