Drummer Roger Biwandu and his band, the "Bordeaux Quintet," will take you straight into a night of hard-bop style tinged with high-intensity pop music. On the brass side, we find an exceptional duo formed by Mickaël Chevalier on trumpet/flugelhorn and Jean-Christophe Jacques on tenor/soprano sax, both strongly inspired by the legendary Branford and Wynton Marsalis, who are also Roger's inspirations. These two magnificent talents set the tone and color of this "Bordeaux Quintet," whose jazz music is inspired by African American music. Hervé Saint-Guirons, affectionately nicknamed "The Reverend," is equally at ease on the piano as he is behind his organ, delivering the right musical message. It is on the piano that he reigns supreme in this "Bordeaux Quintet," distilling his excellent sense of melody, refined, subtle playing, and perfect accompaniment. On double bass, the indispensable Nolwenn Martin-Leizour, whom Roger calls upon for most of his projects, is blessed with impeccable tempo and possesses a rare sense of rhythm. She possesses the necessary solidity for this instrument, which is often the glue, the cement of all jazz ensembles (and others) worthy of the name.
Roger "Kemp" Biwandu is a drummer who needs no introduction, originally from the Bordeaux region. At the age of sixteen, he accompanied Biréli Lagrène and then, during his career divided between television, pop, and jazz, he accompanied Jacques Higelin and I Muvrini as well as Sixun and Ultramarine, before moving on to Joe Zawinul and Salif Keita... (...) "Kemp's" music is a modern mainstream jazz in the tradition of Watts ("Tainzilla"), of course, but also the Marsalis brothers ("B & W's Blues"). He made a solid name for himself with the brilliant band Chic Hot, featuring Mario Canonge on piano, and has also had the opportunity to record with Carole King, Keziah Jones, Jeff Beck, Joe Zawinul, and Bobby McFerrin. The man nicknamed KEMP has a full career, and it's far from over...
