The Château de Maisons, built by François Mansart (1598-1666) in the first half of the 17th century for the Parisian parliamentarian René de Longueil, is considered one of his masterpieces. Inaugurated in the presence of the young king Louis XIV and the regent Anne of Austria in 1651, it was immediately admired and considered as the quintessence of the "French style" castle. In 1777, the Count of Artois, brother of Louis XVI, bought the estate which was acquired, after the Revolution, by Marshal Lannes and then by the banker Jacques Laffitte. The State saved it from destruction in 1905. The Center for National Monuments has since 2016 carried out major restoration work on its facade and its surroundings.
