With this new project, Nicola Sabato shows the extent of his talents as an arranger-renovator, demonstrating with inspiration that we can reinterpret the groove of his inspirers: Charles Mingus, Christian McBride, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones ... Represented each by a composition, they all came to illustrate the stylistic diversity of jazz: swing and latinisms, ballads and funky shuffles, great classics full of recollection ("Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"), contemporary standards bright ("The Shade of the Cedar Tree "), up-tempo quivering (" Unit 7 ") ... With the rhythmic discoveries of the leader (" What's New "with the groove of" Poinciana "!), each musician has only to let himself go to his invention. At the confluence of Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander, Gene Harris and Bill Evans, with a melodic touch that belongs only to him, the huge Tamir Hendelman is unleashed with the commitment of all his musicality. As for Germain Cornet, he understood everything in the nuances and dynamics that a drummer must bring, brooms with chopsticks, between finesse and excitement. Swing to the extreme.
