Gabi Hartmann is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Paris, France, whose influences range from Brazilian and African music to Jazz. She studied Philosophy and Politics in Paris and then moved to Rio de Janeiro where she fell in love with Brazilian music, learned to speak Portuguese fluently and performed in local bars. After two years there she moved to London to study ethnomusicology, leading her on musical journeys in South Africa, Guinea and Portugal. She is at work recording her first solo project in Rio and New York with Jesse Harris, featuring her original material, as well as new French versions of his songs. Her first single 'Always Seem To Get Things Wrong' is out the 31st of May. She will be playing with a quartet including Jesse harris on guitar as the special guest.
Jesse Harris is a songwriter, singer and guitarist from New York City. He has written songs for Melody Gardot, Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones (who sang his song "Don't Know Why," for which he won the Grammy Award) and many others. His latest album, Songs Never Sung, was recorded in the tradition of the classic vocal albums, with horn arrangements by CJ Camerieri and featuring jazz guitar legend Bill Frisell, drummer Kenny Wollesen and bassist Tony Scherr. This performance at Sunset will be Harris' first in Paris since 2013.
