In 1981, he relaunched his career as a leader by forming The Great Jazz Trio, with bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams, two members of the Miles Davis quintet of the 1960s, later replaced by drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassist. Eddie Gomez for another remarkable trio. In 1995, he went to meet Mandingo music by recording with Malian Cheikh Tidiane Seck on keyboards, the album Sarala.

Originally from the Bordeaux region, Simon graduated from the Pôle Supérieur de Paris in 2015. Sideman and leader he loves above all, the stage. In 2017 he released a first album "Flying Wolf" with a good presence in the press. In March 2021, he will release a trio album "Light Blue" devoted to a repertoire of songs that has been unanimously acclaimed by the profession.
