L’Humour Chez Duke Ellington Par Philippe Baudoin
L’humour chez Duke Ellington par Philippe Baudoin
Conference
Jazz has often been associated with the idea of celebration and dancing, and gaiety and humor were long natural to it. Many pre-war jazzmen claimed the dual identity of musicians and entertainers. Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, Slim Gaillard, and many others. Duke Ellington is not often evoked from the angle of humor, but he used it in his works, on stage and in his interviews, a master of what we can call protective or defensive humor. We will evoke all this with the help of audios and videos
Philippe Baudoin, Président d’Honneur de la Maison du Duke, pianiste, compositeur, arrangeur, enseignant, chercheur et auteur d’ouvrages musicologiques et historiques
