Rhapsodies In Gershwin

Rhapsody in Blue, the Concerto in F, An American in Paris, Porgy and Bess, hundreds of hit songs, dozens of musical reviews that made popular audiences run ... George Gershwin's multiple and innovative work made the world resonate. he story of America in the 1920s, that of a new world whose heart beats to the rhythm of modernity, both faster and stronger. His music embodied a whole generation animated by its dreams and its masterful celebrations: that of the Jazz Age. His musical compositions are so many soundtracks of this time: the "metropolitan madness", the ramps of Broadway, the Hollywood projectors... But if Gershwin lived free, famous, rich and happy, his death at the age of 38 , as tragic as it is absurd, resembles that of a hero by Francis Scott Fitzgerald. – The Del Mar and Saxo Voce Ensembles offer a program reflecting this brilliant, spontaneous, imaginative and carefree era, designed around the work of George Gershwin: his two rhapsodies: the sublime and underperformed Manhattan Rhapsody, the Rhapsody in Blue, the Cuban Overture, and some of his immortal songs, The Man I Love, Summertime, Our love is here to stay, Strike up the band, Sweet & lowdown… The two rhapsodies are presented in a version for piano and orchestra of 9 saxophones, which highlights the urban dimension of George Gershwin's music. The arrangements are by Jean-Pierre Ballon.
