HAMID DRAKE'S TURIYA Honoring Alice Coltrane (USA, Italy, Norway, France)

Turiya, which corresponds to the state of pure consciousness, is the Sanskrit name of Alice Coltrane, figurehead of spiritual jazz and guru of a Far East-oriented generation. At an age when others are retiring, drummer Hamid Drake, who has served the greatest names in free jazz, from Don Cherry to Pharoah Sanders, from Fred Anderson to Archie Shepp or Peter Brötzmann, salutes the memory and the enchanting music of the American composer, harpist and organist, who represented for him since his adolescence a determining marker, musically and spiritually.
