Octave And Anatole –1000 Faces Of Billie Holiday

Billie Holiday, inspired from childhood by Louis Amstrong and Bessie Smith discovered the scene by chance, just like the profession of singer. From the first moments; his hoarse, bewitching and tragic voice took the audience by the throat, especially John Hammond who recorded it with Benny Goodman in 1933 and launched his exceptional career. It was also by chance, as a teenager, that Gabrielle Sandman discovered Billie's voice. That wonderful voice that acts like an octopus and “hangs you with eight arms”. (Vian, 1954). In septet, the collective Octave and Anatole make us discover or rediscover, through music and words, some of the 1000 faces of Billie. From the in love to the excessive, from the passionate to the flayed. All these faces that follow one another but are never alike.
