THE MASTER OF IMPROVISATION: FRED HERSCH

American pianist, improviser, composer, and influential artist Fred Hersch has cemented his place in the jazz hall of fame over three decades with more than 50 albums as a frontman or co-leader, for which he received an impressive fifteen Grammy nominations.

Heir to the legacy of Bill Evans and a mentor to Brad Mehldau, Hersch captivates audiences with his virtuosic, delicate, and introspective style.

His rare appearances in Paris make his performance at the festival a truly special occasion, where he will unveil his latest album released by ECM just weeks prior. "Silent, Listening", is a remarkable addition to ECM's esteemed collection of solo piano recordings. Featuring seven original compositions and a selection of meticulously curated standards, including timeless pieces such as “Star-Crossed Lovers” by Billy Strayhorn, “Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise” by Sigmund Romberg, “Winter Of My Discontent” by Alec Wilder, and “The Wind” by Russ Freeman, Hersch's performance promises to deliver his signature blend of great focus, sensitivity, and grace.

Imagine the artist alone at the piano, nestled within the magnificent wood-panelled Maison de l'Océan grand amphitheatre, for a glimpse of things to come…undoubtedly a pure moment of musical grace in the making.
