Musique traditionnelle du Pacifique colombien et Latin jazz

Après avoir vécu de merveilleuses expériences avec des musiciens traditionnels de la région du Pacifique (Colombie), Giovanni a trouvé l’inspiration pour créer une histoire se déroulant au milieu du XXe siècle, où l’arrivée d’un mystérieux piano attire l’attention d’un jeune musicien dont le principal contexte musical est le son de la marimba. Le jeune musicien apprend le piano à l’aide de vieilles partitions de jazz et de musique européenne, un peu maltraitées, qui sont arrivées avec l’instrument. Ainsi, grâce aux Bombos et aux Cununos, de nouvelles portes s’ouvrent à lui pour explorer ses traditions et approcher le piano.
En tenant compte de l’histoire ci-dessus, ce projet recrée une autre vision possible de la musique folklorique de la région du Pacifique. Cette musique, traditionnellement appréciée comme « dansante », ajoute une valeur esthétique qui est déterminante pour la formation culturelle et artistique du pays du point de vue de l’écoute ; l’improvisation dans la musique de jazz avec sa dynamique génère une atmosphère contemplative et explore d’autres possibilités que la richesse de ces rythmes offre généreusement.

By having marvellous experiences with traditional musicians from the Pacific region (Colombia), Giovanni finds inspiration to create a story taking place in the mid XX century, where the arrival of a mysterious piano atracts the attention of a young musician for whose main musical context is the Marimba sound. The young musician learns the piano by old, and a bit mistreated Jazz and European music scores that arrived with the instrument. In this way, using Bombos and Cununos new doors are opening up for him to explore his traditions and to approach the piano.
Taking into account the above story, this project recreates another possible view of folk music from the pacific region. This music, traditionally appreciated as « danceable », adds an aesthetic value which is determining for the cultural and artistic formation of the country from a listening point of view; improvisation in jazz music with its dynamics generates a contemplative atmosphere and it explores other possibilities that the richness of these rhythms gives generously.
