During the 2000s, following the trio Prysm's adventure with the Blue Note label, Pierre de Bethmann launched a new story around the ilium project, first in 5tet then in 7tet and 4tet. The idea being to carry out an ambient work of composition around the sound of the Rhodes piano and a stable group of outstanding soloists, foremost among whom the saxophonist David El Malek was to become a long-standing companion. Five albums emerged from this fertile decade in innumerable concerts, subsequently overshadowed by the gradual disappearance of the independent labels which had carried the discographic component, despite the multiple distinctions obtained over the course of the course. ILIUM and COMPLEX will reappear on November 12, OUI and CUBIQUE will reappear during the spring. GO, meanwhile, will most certainly be paired with a new recording of the 4tet which for the occasion is moving to the Sunside at each of these next stages, for a release at the end of 2022.
