Modern pianist and improviser inspired by the music of John Coltrane / McCoy Tyner / Keith Jarrett / Thelonious Monk / Chick Corea / Bill Evans / Randy Weston / Ornette Coleman…, Thibaud Mennillo is the grandson of jazz pianist Roger Mennillo, who taught a whole generation of pianists.
Improvising on the piano allows him to exploit all these sources of inspiration – melodic, polyphonic and polyrhythmic – often expressing themselves in a highly concerted use of the instrument. His harmonic research is sometimes skilfully thorough, and at other times he adopts a more refined language verging on minimalism. Through his improvisations, Thibaud Mennillo takes us on a sensory journey to the heart of his inner world. An immaterial, dreamlike space in which he flourishes, always at the service of astounding spontaneity and vigorous, energising playing, constantly renewing himself, far from the beaten track.
"A revelation, on the Jazz Family label, a piano solo by a pianist called Thibaud MENNILLO". Alex Dutilh, France Musique, Open Jazz
"After the release of his first album, Quintes et Sens (Jazz Family), and a fine concert at the Sunside on 28 March, Thibaud Mennillo is already preparing the next step... towards Coltrane and elsewhere!" Jérôme Partage, Jazz Hot
